Edc15p+ questions

Postby mike130 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:48 am

Hi everyone, hope someone can help me out here.
I'm new to tuning and trying to learn by tuning my own car first...

I have a 2006 Ibiza Fr 130 with the BlT engine, I believe it is EDC15+ ecu. My plan is to get another ecu to tune and keep my original as a backup in case things go wrong as I will need the car to drive.

First question is, the new ecu I get I am planning on using EDC15calc and removing the eeprom chip from the ecu and putting it in my eeprom programmer. Save and load the file in EDC15calc checking checksums and saving the file then write this to the eeprom and re-solder. So...

Will this work?

Or can I just edit the code myself in the eeprom programmer software? If so can anyone point me in a direction of what to change?

Thanks in advance for any help.

first you need to read the edc15p tuning guide, it is on the forum, then you need to buy a proper flashing tool. you can download the edc15edit suite on the forum. it is free. no need to buy a spare ecu.

Thanks, I will find the tuning guide and have a look. I already have the edc15suite for making changes to the tuning side of things. My reason for wanting a second ecu to work on is so I can keep the one I have as it is now because I know it works well, if I work on my current ecu and end up bricking it I will be without a car till I get it working again. And I can't be without the car for work reasons etc..

I have the software to read and write maps to the car. Although I am working on a bench setup at the moment so I can bench flash the ecu's. I was wanting to know ifwhat I said in my first post would properly make the second ecu "plug and play"

I will do more reading and just give it a try. Thanks

Will this work?

Yes.

If you have a genuine or recent tool like the MPPS you can also clone the EEPROM by obd, so you don't need to take any ecu apart to fully duplicate the ecu.

just buy an MPPS and you are good to go. no need to desolder anything. I tuned my tdi 130 blt with mpps and its really safe and easy.
