EDC15P Boot mode how?

Postby Nicholas » Sun Apr 07, 2013 4:49 am

Hello,

I have a big problem. I tried to ECU tune my Seat Ibiza 6L TDI PD ASZ 130BHP this weekend and it worked. I downloaded some files with my Galletto 1260 to my ECU and everything went fine.

When I tried to download the 11th file to my ECU it stopped at 50% or something while writing. It gave an error but I'm not sure which one it was. A writing error or something. I think the voltage of my battery was too low but I'm not sure.

Now I can't load any file on my ECU. The program of the Galletto 1260 just hangs after "initializing writing". I also can't read the ECU file.

I read a lot on the internet and I know I need to get in boot mode. I can get in boot mode with my EDC15P by connecting pin 24 to ground while turning the ignition on. I tried that but the program still hangs when I'm trying to write the file. Maybe I'm not getting in boot mode. I used this pdf to see which pin is the boot pin: http://trionic.mobixs.eu/EDC15P/VAG%20EDC15P.pdf

I used the little circle on the chip as reference to see where I can find the boot pin.

Does anyone know how I can fix my ECU with a Galletto 1260? I don't know anymore what I can try to get it working.

I already ordered a MPPS cable because I heard it has an auto recovery function, but because, like everyone, I need my car so I actually can't wait for the MPPS cable to arrive.

I really hope someone can help me!

Thanks!

I already tried this but it didn't work:
Possible you wrong do boot mode. Right is:
Connect pin 24 29f400 to GND.
Power ON ECU.
After 3-5 sec disconnect pin 24 from GND.
Connect Galleto socket.
Start Galleto program.
Select AUDI.
In Driver go to bottom and find AUDI WV ME7.x.x 29f400BB PIN 24 FLASH A MASSA
Press ECU DATA button and check answer.
If you see "Boot mode inactive" you have Galleto USB driver trouble. Often this is conflict Galleto USB driver and drivers from other program for virtual USB COM port. Tray to uninstall all other USB COM drivers.
If you see EEPROM ident all OK.
First read flash few time and binary compare files for check connection stability. If OK - you can write.

Hi!

I've had mostly the same problem while tuning an EDC15P+ off a VW Polo 1.4 TDI (MK6).

It initially failed while I was writing a new tune into it, stopped at 70-ish percent and said "Writing Error" or something, using a Galletto 1260 tool that the car owner had.

I've tried opening up the ECU and switching boot mode through pin 24 on the 29MF400BT chip, but that didn't work. I can't get the ECU into boot mode, nor have I been able to write anything to it or get it to respond at all. I did try, however, with the ECU connected to the car loom and with it's cover open. I read somewhere that you should actually do this on the bench using an 8K pull down resistor BEFORE powering the main feed on the ECU, not the ignition.

Right now I'm stuck as well. If anybody has something to say about it, it'd be greatly appreciated. Also, how do I flash it in boot mode using a Galletto? I don't see a 29MF400BT boot mode (just 29MF400BB).

Thanks.

I am not succeeded in getting it in boot mode.

I saw that someone was selling an MPPS cable in the Netherlands. I drove 4 hours for it (with another car of course), but it was worth it. I tried a few times to write the original file back and after a few times of trying it worked.

So if boot mode doesn't work and you don't want to buy a programmer or want to desolder, just buy an MPPS cable and try it with that! ;)

Hmmm... I might give the MPPS a try then.

How did you try wiring your boot mode?

I connected the boot pin (pin 24) of the chip (see http://trionic.mobixs.eu/EDC15P/VAG%20EDC15P.pdf on page 6) to the GND of the ECU (pin 4 of the connector. Someone said to me it was pin 1 but I tested pin 1 and it was not connected to the GND). I also connected the boot pin to the minus of the battery. Nothing worked. I read a lot on the web, a lot of people don't succeed in getting the EDC15P ECU in boot mode. I tried getting it in boot mode with the ECU connected to the car, because it was sunday and I couldn't find a shop to buy a resistor to make this: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/890803/boot%20pin121.bmp.

That would be about the same as I tried. I hope the MPPS saves me!

Oh by the way, did you need to set the boot mode for the MPPS as well? I've read somewhere (I think it was you who posted it lol) that the MPPS has some form of auto-recovery function that does not need the boot mode?

Indeed, you just need to write the right file with the MPPS. No boot mode is necessary.

Thank you... Here's hoping that it works! I have a friend who's going to bring me his MPPS next week for a trial!

By the way do you have any advice as how to supply the ECU with power on the bench? Will an ATX power supply do the job?
