Chevy Cruze ECU swap (clone) - GM SIMTEC76

Postby oooz » Sat Apr 11, 2015 7:34 pm

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for your help.

I got a 2010 Chevy Cruze (EU) with bad ECU (water damage), Engine will not start.
DTC:

P0606 - PCM / ECM Processor Fault
P0605 - Internal Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error
P061A - Computer and Auxiliary Outputs - ISO/SAE Controlled

GM ECU/ECM Part number: please see attached pictures.

I opened the ECU and found bad circuit and corrosion on the PCB - ECU is defective.

I got a used ECU from a junk yard from the same car with the same part numbers,I put it in the car but no start, I tried to decode the VIN to the new ECU with AVDI but still no start, I tried to reprogram the keys using AVDI but still no start.

The only option is to swap or to clone the memory, I looked into the board tried to find a simple SMD8 EEPROM chip but there is no chip like that, I went trough all the chip on the PCB and the only memory chip is the: AMD 29F800BB, I removed the chip from the board of the old (defective) ECU and read it with programmer, please see file: "AMD 29F800BB - read", I did not write the dump to the new ECU and I did not swap the chips between the 2 ECU's yet.

I installed the new ECU into the car and read it with KESS v2 (please see file ECU read KESS), I don't know if KESS read the whole memory or only partial part of it.

Here I need your help,
I need to know:

1) If the AMD 29F800BB dump that I read with the programmer is OK and will work if I will write it back to the new ECU using KESS.

2) If KESS was able to read the whole memory so for the next time I won't need to open the ECU's.

I've never tested myself, but swapping the 29F800 should do the trick.
