BIG Project available! edc15 to edc16 m57d30 into a boat!!?

Postby epdm » Thu Jan 18, 2018 1:05 pm

Hello,

First of all greeting from sunny Spain, Mallorca to be exact.

I have a proposition for the tuning Guru's here.

I have been using ready files from some of the largest companies in the UK and elsewhere over the last decade. But they cannot, or do not have the time to help me with this project which is as follows:

We have a bmw 330d m57d30 184hp engine taken from a 3/2001 e46 bmw using the edc15 platform. The owner of the well established garage here want to fit this into a boat which has a gass guzzling v8 petrol. He is very technically skilled and foresees no problem doing this from the mecanical point of view. But we need help in the programming aspect.

Moreover the internals of the engine block will be upgraded with those of the biturbo m57d30TU (272hp) engine. Meaning to say that the old engine block will be used because the connections will want to be retained. In other words the crank, conrods, pistons, bearings will all be changed/machined to fit the block. The head will remain the same as its identical anyway as well as the injectors. Also only one very large turbo is going to be used instead of the smaller/larger combo of the biturbo.

So we need the various adjustments to be made to the edc15 ( (bosch 0 281 010 314) ecu to incorporate the biturbo internals.

We will use the e46 as a mule to be tested on the dyno. Let us worry about how this will be transplanted into the boat format.

One would argue why not take a whole biturbo engine with ecu etc, but he idea is to make this into some sort of mass production as we have several of these edc15 3.0d engines and there is a lot of potential demand for such a boat conversion. So once the programming is done once one would simply clone ecu to next one.

Is anyone upt for this job? Or does anyone know of any such similar projects having been carried out? I have read out the edc15 binary data.

I don't mind at all if you want to discuss this subject openly in this topic.

Sorry, I cant help with your project  but you might get a better response posting here www.ecuedit.com/ecu-tuning-requests

Hello! Sounds like 4502 job to me. My advice would be plain and simple, EDC15 is not fit to control any kind of engine, because of ultra-low processing power and a very poor documentation as far as the DAMOS goes.

In one of my posts there is a DAMOS file for EDC15C7, with possibly complete variable declaration list, but I highly suspect many of those are already overwritten and incorrect.

Anyway, if you download it and load it into the demo WinOLS, you will see that even a simple control unit as the EDC15C has a long list of things to tune! It's a much bigger job than the mechanical work!

Next, you will certainly need the Bosch EDC15C handbook, which is on two locations at this site.

isuzu-gm-4ee2-1-7-honda-opel-ctdi-cdti-bosch-edc15c7-thread-t16595

So, you have several options, if this were a petrol engine, just buying a specialist ECU for the engine class would be enough, but here you have many different sensors for which the ECU must be specially tailored and the firmware properly adjusted. For example, my engine has a codewheel on the camshaft and a crank sensor. The ECU has software and software switches in the DAMOS that allow proper operation and recognition of these signals. There are several almost identical versions of my engine, but some of those have a different codewheel, which si NOT visible from the outside!

OK, let's use another "same" EDC15C7 from Alpha Romero, that one has an extra of controlling the oil pressure!

So, whatever you do, you get the handbook first and start reading.

You must use the injectors match the pistons so you would be after pre lci 535d injectors. You will need the 535d injector pump as well because the edc15 one is too small. With adjustments to the pid control you can use the factory boost control or just run an external wastegate on spring pressure

Its up and running

Obviously giving fault codes and going into safe mode because of no air mass meter and egr attached.

So whose up for it? :-)

How are you getting along with this?

I asked for similar help and got zero reply.. post58895?hilit=boat#p58895

I dont want lots of modifications. I just want the bad things turned off, like the immobiliser and disconnect the BSI. It would be good to adjust a few simple maps to reduce power and turn off DPF regen etc.

Hi,

On on our 3rd file now. MAF to MAP. Increased injection from 28ml to 75ml which is about as much as it can take as its starting to smoke. Raised turbo pressure to 1.5bar. Now will try different injection angles but ran into a little problem with the motherboard today...

Sent me a private message and I'll be glad to let you know the details.

Slightly stuck here. Power is there, partially but much too late. probably due to the large turbo? Also made a custom exhaust manifold but the bottleneck is somewhere else.
