If, by any chancew, you meant "anti-bounce counter", that is a software feature allowing to filter out noisy contact switches and get only a clean on/off output, which is untra important, if the switch is to trigger something very important or something that takes a lot of CPU time.
In that case, if the filtering value had been set too low, you'd easily cause CPU freeze for the ECU would try to needlessly initiate the same calculation over and over, consuming all resources.
